Lesson Plans: August 22-24

8th grade (3 days): Students will learn about a mandala as a universal symbol of peace. Students will create their own mandala design using radial symmetry. Students should demonstrate an understanding of composition as well as an ability to intentionally use art media to enhance their design. SS# 1.2, 3.1, 4.1, 6.2

7th grade (3 days): Students will complete the Oriental Dragon screens by cutting the drawing into panels and attaching it to cardboard. Tuesday students will begin the Mandala project described above.

7th grade (1 day): Students will complete a marker design focusing on contour lines and contrast. SS #1.2

6th grade (2 day): Students will begin a project based on the art of ancient Egypt. They will use shapes and lines to create pattern and repetition within an Egyptian sarcophagus design. SS# 2.3, 4.1, 4.2, 4.3

6th grade (1 day): Students will complete the fabric design project. Students drew a design from direct observation of fabric swatches. They focused on actual shapes, proportion, and creating matching colors through blending. SS# 1.2, 5.1
